About

Dr. Herman Venter

I was born and raised in a small town in South Africa. At the age of 18, I moved to Bloemfontein to pursue my medical degree, graduating in 1999. During my final year of medical school, I married my high school sweetheart. After graduation, we relocated to Bethlehem, South Africa, where I completed my internship and community service year.

During this time, my wife and I decided to explore new opportunities abroad, aiming to work in Canada for a few years with no intention of making it a permanent move. However, once we arrived in McBride, British Columbia, we quickly fell in love with the country. With just two suitcases each and a complete change in lifestyle—especially the drastic temperature shift from South Africa’s summer to a northern BC winter—we were captivated by the natural beauty and the welcoming community. It wasn’t long before we knew Canada was where we wanted to live and raise our children.

In McBride, I worked as the sole physician covering the area between Valemount and McBride. I provided maternity care, emergency services, family medicine, and more, in addition to working at a small 8-bedroom hospital that included a long-term care facility. While it was an invaluable learning experience, after obtaining my permanent work license and permanent residency, my wife and I felt it was time for a new chapter.

In 2007, we relocated to Salmon Arm, British Columbia. We were never drawn to big city life, and Salmon Arm—with its beautiful mountains, stunning Shuswap Lake, and warm, welcoming community—felt like the perfect place to settle down. I began working full-time in general practice at Mt. Ida Medical Clinic while also serving shifts in the emergency room. After the birth of our third child, I made the decision to focus exclusively on family practice to spend more time with my family.

In 2012, I had a transformative experience when I acquired my first laser machine. Initially, I dedicated just a few hours each week to laser treatments in my GP practice. During this time, I also engaged in staff training to learn more about the treatments available. By 2013, I expanded my knowledge and skills by training in neuromodulators (commonly known as Botox), followed by dermal fillers in 2014. As my cosmetic practice grew, it became clear that I needed to separate this work from my general practice.

With the support of my wife, Linda, I opened CHADALIN, a name created by combining the first few letters of our three boys’ names—a personal touch that reflects our family’s commitment to this new venture. We transformed a former liquor store into a tranquil and welcoming spa, located conveniently near my medical clinic. As demand for my services grew, I made the decision to transition fully into the cosmetic medicine field, ending my family practice in June 2020.

During this time, I also pursued further education, completing a two-year online Dermatology Diploma through the University of Cardiff, Wales, which I graduated from in June 2020. I felt this additional qualification would complement my cosmetic practice and further enhance my expertise.

Since then, I have dedicated myself entirely to cosmetic medicine. Over the years, I have attended numerous conferences and received training from some of the world’s top injectors. Given the negative perceptions that some cosmetic treatments have garnered due to overfilled or unnatural results, I have made it my mission to teach others the techniques I’ve perfected. My goal is to ensure that the cosmetic medicine industry is seen in its true light—helping individuals enhance their natural beauty in a safe, responsible, and effective manner.

My passion lies in helping individuals feel more confident, whether that involves refreshing their appearance as they age, addressing long-standing concerns like scars, or simply enhancing their features in a subtle, natural way. I believe that cosmetic treatments should not make someone look “different” but should enhance their features in a way that aligns with their natural beauty. With over a decade of experience, I feel uniquely positioned to train new injectors, passing on the techniques and skills that ensure safe and effective results.

Cosmetic medicine is more than just a profession for me—it’s a deep passion. The potential for severe complications in this field makes continued education and experience essential. I am committed to ensuring that my trainees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to perform these life-changing treatments safely and effectively.

I look forward to the future, both as a cosmetic injector and as a trainer, sharing my knowledge and expertise with the next generation of practitioners in this exciting and rewarding field.
